Santa in the Chimney Stocking Pattern

Are you looking for a gift to make that is fun and festive? Well I have the pattern for you. This fun stocking design is sure to inspire laughter.

You will use less than an entire skein per color and this pattern works up very quickly. It is the perfect pattern to make when you want to use up yarn in your stash.

Size

         14” X 8”

Materials

         Worsted Weight yarn

                  1 skein red, white, black and grey

                  A small amount of blue, green, and yellow

         Size G hook (4.0 mm)

         Size H hook (5.0 mm)

         Scissors

         Needle

Gauge

         17 sts X 16 rows =4”

Abbreviations

         sc – single crochet

         hdc – half double crochet

         dc – double crochet

         dec – decrease

         inc – increase

         sp – space

         St(s) – stitch(es)

         Ch – chain

Sl st – slip stitch

Notes

  • To change the width of the stocking, increase or decrease the amount of chains by 6.

Let’s Get Started!   

Stocking

Work the stocking using a h 5.0 mm hook.

Using white and leaving a long enough tail to sew up the bottom ch 60

  1. Sl st to 1st ch, ch 1, sc in all chs (60 sc)
  2. Using red, ch 3, turn, sk 1 st, hdc in the next 5 sts, (sk 1 st, ch1, hdc in next 5 sts) repeat 9 times, sl st to 2nd ch of the beginning ch up (60 sts)
  3. Ch 2, turn, (hdc in next 5 sts, sk1 st, ch 1) repeat 10 times, sl st to beginning st (60 sts)
  4. Using white, ch 1, turn, (dc in empty sc from row 1 that is below the ch 1 spaces, sc in next 5 sts) repeat 10 times (60 sts)
  5. Using red, ch 2, turn, hdc in next 2 sts, (sk 1 st, ch 1, hdc in next 5 sts) repeat 9 times, sk 1 st, ch 1, hdc in next 3 sts (60 sts)
  6. Ch 2, turn, hdc in next 3 sts, (sk 1 st, ch 1, hdc in next 5 sts) repeat 9 times, sk 1 st, ch 1, hdc in next 2 sts (60 sts)
  7. Using white, ch 1, turn, sc in next 2 sts, (dc in empty st from row 4, sc in next 5 sts) repeat 9 times, dc in empty st from row 4, sc in next 3 sts (60 sts)

8-43. repeat rows 2 – 7 (60 sts)

44. Using grey, ch 1 turn, (sc in next 5 sts, 2 sc in next sts) repeat 10 times

45 – 47. ch 2, turn, hdc around (70 sts)

48. ch 1, turn, (sc in next 5 sts, sc dec in next 2 sts) repeat 10 times

Fasten off.  Turn the stocking inside out. Sew the bottom shut.  Weave in ends.

Feet (make 2) Use a G 4.0 mm hook.

  1. Using red and leave a long enough tail to sew legs to the stocking, in a magic ring, ch 2, dc 10 sts, sl st to 1st sts (10 sts)
    1. Ch 2, dc in next 10 sts, sl st to 1st st (10 sts)
  2. Using black, ch 1, (sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next sts) repeat twice, sl st to 1st st (12 sts)

6-8. ch 1, sc around, sl st to 1st st (12 sts)

9. Flatten the top, ch 1, sc across going through sc sts on both sides. You will have one row of 5sts at the end and the whole will be closed up.

10. Ch 5, hdc in 3rd ch from the hook, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 2 sts (8 sts)

11. Ch 1, turn, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next 3 sts (8 sts)

12. Ch 1, turn, sc across (8 sts)

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Loop

         Use a H 5.0 mm hook.

Using white, ch 28, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc across.  Fasten off leaving a long enough tail to sew onto stocking.

         Lights for loop (make 8)

Use a G 4.0 mm hook.

Ch 4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, dc, sc in last ch.  Fasten off leaving a long enough tail to attach to loop.  Sew to loop.  Fold loop over and sew ends to inside corner of stocking.
